Welcome,

My name is Melanie Young. I am a qualified, registered counsellor and psychotherapist. I see people by phone and video.

I draw on the mainstream psychotherapies, but with an emphasis on existential therapy.

Those mainstream therapies give us tools for psychological insight and growth. They help us to see our patterns and blindspots, and to tap into our desires and motivation, while also providing tools to create change.

The value of existential therapy is that it goes beyond the psychological and looks to the bigger picture. What is life about? What is your life about? What gives your life meaning and value. What is the good life for you? How do you pursue that?

I help with many of the issues that people take to mainstream counselling and psychotherapy. For example, depresssion and anxiety; self esteem, confidence, and assertion; grief, loss and change; navigating life’s decisions; relationships; work aspirations; burn-out; attention and focus; screen-addiction; purpose and direction; identifying and pursuing greater life passions….

Please note that counselling and psychotherapy are very different to clinical psychology. I do not engage with clinical assessments, diagnoses, or the medical model in general. Instead, existential therapy sees your struggles or goals as challenges in living, which call for increased wisdom, effort and growth of both a psychological and existential kind.
